HOW IT STARTED
Ywaste transformation
In 8 years, Ywaste has transformed from a small company manufacturing domestic-scale worm farms into a substantial operation which diverts over 1,500 tons of food waste from landfills every year. Ywaste is a majority blackowned, BBBEE Level 1 company that has grown from a family business to an operation which diverts over 300 tons of food waste from landfills every month. Ywaste focuses on effective and responsible management of food waste and conversion to compost reduces the contribution food waste makes to landfill proliferation. This also enables the replenishment of the soil, which in turn, leads to a better world.
We have conserved
10 Million Kilos…
Since 2011 Ywaste has diverted 10,426 tonnes of waste from landfill.

HOW YWASTE WORKS
We collect, separate, sort and turn organic waste into compost
We are disrupting archaic waste management systems. Creating a company people can look at, and be proud of, custodians of the planet, a custodian of the people.
STEP 1
Collection of Waste
We provide services for clients in
the retail, hospitality and
residential sectors.
STEP 2
Separation Phase
The separation of organic and nonorganic waste happens at our warehouse in Philippi.
STEP 3
Waste Deployment
Non-organic waste is sent to recycling centres and the organic waste is composted.
STEP 4
Compost Utilised
Compost is used for gardening and landscaping. We sell to farmers, landscapers and households.
“Genius of Waste is a concept to address socio economic issues, using waste materials as a resource to address economic growth, environmental stability, social upliftment and tangible relief from a life of poverty, despair and abandonment.”

TESTIMONIALS
We love hearing from our conscious consumers
Smart Waste Western Cape has worked with YWaste since 2019. We have found them to be consistently reliable, innovative and knowledgeable about organic waste. The service they provide is reasonably priced, so we would recommend them to anyone in need of organic waste service."
We are so glad we found Ywaste, as now you get compost from our coffee waste.
The quantity, quality, and pricing they offer us make Feed The Soil a wonderful success and we are very happy that Ywaste has been our composting partner since the program's inception. With over 13 tons of compost already generated and another 16 tons in production, I can proudly say that together we bring hope and growth to the farmers we work with.
In February 2011, Ywaste introduced us to the bokashi method and initiated the collection of our food waste. This was mainly in response to our previous waste disposal contractor informing us that they could no longer remove our wet food waste from our premises. Furthermore, the pig farmer could no longer collect food waste that contained protein or had come into contact with humans. The unpleasant odours in the waste room were also a concern, and the implementation of the bokashi process helped to mitigate this issue.
We are conscious disruptors of the waste management industry.
