Ywaste transformation
In 16 years, Ywaste has transformed from a small company manufacturing domestic-scale worm farms into a substantial operation which diverts over 3,500 tons of food waste from landfills every year. Ywaste is a majority blackowned, BBBEE Level 1 company that has grown from a family business to an operation which diverts over 800 tons of food waste from landfills every month. Ywaste focuses on effective and responsible management of food waste and conversion to compost reduces the contribution food waste makes to landfill proliferation. This also enables the replenishment of the soil, which in turn, leads to a better world.

Collection of Waste
We provide services for clients in
the retail, hospitality and

Separation Phase
The separation of organic and nonorganic waste happens at our warehouse in Philippi.
STEP 3
Waste Deployment
Non-organic waste is sent to recycling centres and the organic waste is composted.
STEP 4
Compost Utilised
Compost is used for gardening and landscaping. We sell to farmers, landscapers and households.

In February 2011, Ywaste introduced the bokashi method and began collecting our food waste after our previous contractor stopped handling wet food waste. We also faced unpleasant odors in the waste room, which the bokashi process helped to address.
